Inside the Letterbox
Senior Seminar
I chose Inside the Letterbox because I wanted to watch a broader variety of movies and have the opportunity to watch and discuss with my friends and classmates. We watched (or started) one film a week in class and then watched 1-3 other films on our own and wrote reviews on Letterbox'd. We also learned about different cinematic elements and why movies might work/don't work.

An excerpt from my review of The Princess Bride:

The Princess Bride followed a loose Rom-Com trope, where the girl is kidnapped, but then the guy saves the girl heroically and after they are pulled apart again, they end up together happily. But it is important to note that the circumstances keeping them apart are a short man who says “inconceivable” a million times, André the giant, and Westley becoming mostly dead for a period of time to name a few. (Also, not important, but my cousin named her son Westley after this movie). There is definitely some chemistry between Buttercup and Westley or at least they are an attractive pair that is believable to be in love. However, when I watched the movie this time, I realized that Buttercup is somewhat annoying and Westley’s humor is the real star of the movie. In general, I found that this movie relied more heavily on the Com of the Rom-Com, and you kind of just have to trust that they are in love because he kept saying “as you wish.”
